Kickstand
Offering home bike repair and off-road assistance, Kickstand is a novel business concept any bike enthusiast would love. The business relies on a heavily mobile business model, boasting the fastest times for all bike services.
Take a look at our brandbook for more insight.
Overview
Kickstand was an interactive group study for web application development. The project was expanded to span across multiple devices with a responsive landing page and a native app to boot. The basic business concept was to support bicyclists around the Austin area.
Research
Research was conducted by identifying consumer demographics and creating audience personas. Audience personas are fictional, archetypical customers that ascribe a profile, needs, wants and expectations in order to design the best possible brand and brand strategy. On top of personas, mappings for both web and native applications served as reminders towards overall requirements and user affordances.
Analysis
Based on demographic data and qualitative data collected from bicyclists, we determined the mobile presence needed to have immediate call-to-action's and easy navigation to better handle mobile problematic situations users come across, such as: flat tires, broken chains, etc.Based on demographic data and qualitative data collected from bicyclists, we determined the mobile presence needed to have immediate call-to-action's and easy navigation to better handle mobile problematic situations users come across, such as: flat tires, broken chains, etc.
Furthermore, the platform needed to support users while on-the-go; essentially providing on spot support. Site mapping required a quick process, one easy enough to submit a help request within a matter of a few clicks. It was obvious location detection was going to play a vital role.
Wireframes
The Kickstand platform would primarily rely upon the native application for service requests and profiling, while the web landing page would serve as an introductory site to the native application. Utilization of the perceived affordances through mobile devices alotted more flexibility and better integration with Kickstand's mobile 'first' model.
High Fidelity
After injecting life into the wireframes, Kickstand's native application carries over the red to attract the user to key areas/buttons. A minimal aesthetic helps strip away distraction and helps narrow down navigation for a more streamlined approach.
Web Presence
The final approach to the project was to create a single landing page aimed at directing our target audience to the application on the App Store. The landing page would highlight core features and basic information to attract bicyclists to download the software onto their devices.
